Fritillaria thunbergii Miq.

FRITILLARIA THUNBERGII is a perennial plant of LILIACEAE. Underground Bulbs Bulbous or Oblate, White, slightly concave up and down, often formed by two or three thick scales involute, 2 ~ 6 cm in diameter; usually a bulb has two heart buds; scales and Heart Buds are inserted on the bulb disk. Stems Solitary, erect, Terete, 30-80 cm tall, smooth, glabrous, waxy. Leaves Simple, sessile; lower leaves wider, upper leaves narrower, needle-shaped to linear-needle-shaped, 6-15 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm wide, entire; lower leaves opposite or subopposite; upper leaves alternate, Apex tendril-shaped. Flowers solitary between stem nuchal or upper leaf axils, shortly pedicellate. THE GENERAL PLANT HAS 3 ~ 9 flowers, racemose arrangement, when opening droop, campanulate; perianth 6 pieces, Flaxen Green, arrange two round, long obovate or ovoid, about 2.5 cm long, about 1.5 cm wide, inside scatter purple spot, intertexture becomes reticulate; 6 stamens; 1 pistil. Capsule, with 6 equal width Longitudinal Wing, loculicidal at maturity, 50 to 100 seeds per fruit. Seeds flattened, subsemicircular. Margin winged, light brown, generally 0.6 cm long, 0.5 cm wide, about 0.1 cm thick, 1000-grain weight about 3 grams.

The growth temperature of FRITILLARIA THUNBERGII IS 4 ~ 30 °C, too low or too high are dormant. The soil requires moist sandy soil (water content in 80%) , well-drained, well-lit place, relatively cold, in Beijing can winter in the ground. Clay soil, dry place is not suitable for cultivation.

Wild in the forest or hillside grass, distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hunan and other provinces. There are a large number of cultivation in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.
